These rarer wines are made from only a few small blocks in our Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough vineyards. They’re the result of our winemaker’s craft; pushing boundaries to create wines of great expression, elegance and finesse.
We have been producing these two New Zealand icons, from the renown Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke’s Bay, for around 30 years, and they have evolved into richly flavoured, balanced and elegant wines.
The Patriarch is our flagship red wine, grown on our Gimblett Gravels ‘Irongate’ vineyard in Hawke’s Bay and made in honour of the company founder and New Zealand wine industry pioneer, Josip Babich. With this wine, we allow ourselves complete flexibility to make the best we can – we are not committed to a particular variety or blend and crop levels are very restricted.

100 Year Wines
2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from our Gimblett Road vineyard in Hawke’s Bay was so outstanding it was put aside to be the wine to celebrate the centenary of Babich family winemaking. Our viticulturist identified the best rows of grapes and then hand-picked fruit was crafted into a small volume of exceptional wine – aged for 18 months in barriques of French oak. The packaging reflects the exclusive nature of the wine. Every bottle comes in a carefully designed box, with a certificate personally signed by Joe Babich – adding to the authenticity of the wine, and making it a perfect gift for wine lovers. Each bottle has an ultra-high end cork and is hand waxed.
This range celebrates 100 years of New Zealand family winemaking. The wines showcase the different wine varieties and regions of New Zealand, with a label that talks to tradition and quality.
