Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

This is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with all of the hallmark characters that brought New Zealand wine to the top of the world, sustainably produced in a fuller, riper, softer style that develops well and provides easily drinkability. This wine is clean, fresh and tropical, with fruit harvested from several vineyards situated throughout Marlborough.

TASTING NOTES

Room-filing aromas of black currant, mandarin and grapefruit rise from the glass to be joined by complexing tropical notes and sweet herbs. The entry is fresh and juicy with layers of lime, passionfruit , rock melon, blackcurrant and a touch of red bell-pepper on the finish. Sweet ripeness rides through the palate complimented perfectly by a zesty drive and real focus. Medium weight and good breadth.

Grapes from our own estates and select growers were picked, crushed and pressed at perfect ripeness. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks at various temperatures to capture the fresh flavours unique to Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. A small percentage was fermented wild to build in some palate complexity. After extensive tastings by the winemakers the wine was assembled, lightly fined and bottled.

And ideal match with any seafood, particularly shellfish.

TASTING NOTES

Our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is perfumed and lifted with passionfruit, blackcurrant and sweet herbs. Mandarin notes also. Juicy and mouth-filling with layers of fruit including gooseberry, blackcurrant and lemon, there is a line of minerality and touch of capsicum also. Long bright and balanced. Our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020 and 2021 vintages have proven to be particularly popular.

Grapes from our various Marlborough vineyards were picked, crushed and pressed at perfect ripeness. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks at various temperatures, and with a mix of wild and inoculated yeast, to capture the unique combined qualities of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and also build in some textural and flavour complexity. After extensive tastings by the winemakers this blend was assembled, lightly fined and bottled.

This wine is a delectable complement to seafood, shellfish and white fish. Crunchy summer salads and green peppers, or think any 'green' dish with parsley, rosemary, basil, cilantro or mint, and you'll find it a great food match.

"An enticing, fresh, varietal and pure fruited bouquet followed by flavours of apple and lemon, pink grapefruit, a touch of quince then tropical fruit flavours of pineapple and mango. The herbaceousness is obvious yet calm and entwined through the fruit flavours. Firm, crisp, refreshing and dry. Well made and ready from today and through 2023."

"At once fresh and lively in that classic Marlborough style, with zesty gooseberry, tropical citrus and passionfruit, but with a little malolactic fermentation and production style that ensures a fuller, softer Sauvignon Blanc than typical for the region. The combination makes it ideal as a refreshing summer white, but with a little added food-pairing flexibility—especially oysters. Serious value here."

"Made mainly from estate vineyards, Babich consistently offers a tasty and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc with riper tropical and citrus fruit notes and richer texture than many of its Marlborough neighbours."

"The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc is the best regular bottling I can recall from Babich. It's pristine and pure, with aromas and flavors of gooseberries and hints of nectarine and snow pea pods. Medium-bodied and adequately concentrated, it should drink well for a year or two."
89 POINTS -Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate Feb 2018

"Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with light green hues, lighter edged.  The nose is elegantly concentrated with a rich core of passionfruit and tropical fruit entwined with fresh herb aromas, along with soft notes of nettles and cut-grass.  Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has moderately rich and gently succulent flavours of passionfruit and tropical fruit with subtle notes of fresh herbs and delicate nuances of nettles and cut-grass.  The mouthfeel is bright and refreshing with zesty acidity, and the wine flows along a fine line carrying to an elegant, lingering finish.  This is a softly rich and succulent, passionfruity Sauvignon Blanc with a fresh mouthfeel and a lively line."
