Hawke's Bay Syrah

Our Black Label range is crafted specifically to complement food. This deep coloured Syrah is a classic Hawke’s Bay Syrah, delivering characteristic peppery aromas, strong berry fruit flavours and a luxurious tannin profile.

TASTING NOTES

Vibrant and lifted with plum, black pepper, violets and dried herbs. French oak contributes subtle vanilla and cedar aromas. Supple and smooth with fine soft tannins and medium weight. Cherry, plum and red brambly notes join with a touch of cocoa and nutmeg. Bright, juicy and lingering finish.

Syrah grapes were harvested from our Bridge Pa Triangle vineyard, St John and one of our Gimblett Gravels blocks on Omahu Rd. The fruit was fermented with judicious working of the “cap” to manage phenolic extraction. After an extended period on skins, the young wine was drained to new and old French oak for maturation for a period of seven months.

Makes an ideal partner to strongly flavoured foods such as balsamic marinated steak or an antipasto platter of salami, artichokes, olives and sun dried tomatoes.

TASTING NOTES

Dark fruit and dried herb aromas with pepper and black olive. Also a hint of coffee. Layers of red and black fruits dominate a juicy and lively palate with good density and a fine texture. A supple wine with a warm and spicy finish.

Syrah grapes were harvested from three of our Hawke’s Bay vineyards: St John, Highway 50 and Omahu Rd. "Spicy, meaty, toasty and rich in dark fruit aromas – blackberry and currant suggestions, toasty oak and aged meat qualities. On the palate – tasty, dry, meaty and peppery with plenty of oak and fruit concentration, no missing the tannins – big and bold yet ripe, or the acidity – the back bone of this wine; lovely length and finish – must like oak."
