It's not your grandparent's wine anymore
In the early days of the Babich winery, the wines were nothing like the modern varietals the modern wine palate prefers.
Until the late 1960s, the New Zealand drinking public’s preference was for sweet, fortified wines like port and sherry. As local tastes evolved, so did the wine. But in 1991 we produced a 70th anniversary port, as a nod to the past and to remind us of where we had been.
