Josip wore boots like these for years, then he swore off them for life

In the early days on the Northland gumfields, Josip would constantly wear muddy boots like these, then slip them off and wade into a bucket of grapes to start his winemaking process.

Josip hated the gum digging so much that the last time he took those boots off, he grabbed a nearby axe and chopped them into pieces stating, “I will never do this work again.” And he never did.
