After 94 years, a brother's love still grows strong

Back in 1921, Josip’s brother Ivan planted a pohutukawa tree next to the future winery.

But not long after, while clearing scrub, Ivan developed what would be a fatal bout of pneumonia and passed away. As the winery expanded, there were many times that it would have made sense to pull out the tree to make room for the business. But Josip wouldn’t have it and, to this day, the pohutukawa stands proud and strong as a living tribute to a brother’s memory.
